GT Bicycle's namesake, Gary Turner, designed one of the first BMX race bikes in 1973. His success leads to our modern carbon fiber creations that redefine fast. Nautilus originated with non-circular gear exercise machines designed by the inventor Authur Jones in the late 1960s. The function of the nautilus shape is to vary the resistance over the range of motion providing less resistance when your body is in the part of the range of poor mechanical advantage and greater resistance in the power region. The name Nautilus refers to a mollusc whose shell is in the shape of a logarithmic spiral. Nautilus exercise machines use a logarithmic-spiral cam, around which a chain is wrapped, connected to a series of weights, to control the resistance the user feels as he/she uses the machine.
